KRWA's Mapping Department

is staffed by Mark Thomas. The Department has been brought under one roof instead of outsourcing projects to contractors throughout the state. All projects are now started, completed and billed from Seneca.

KRWA is equipped to handle all of the mapping needs for a utility. KRWA owns two GPS data collection units. The Trimble GeoXH is the top-of-the-line mapping grade data collector on the market. The software that KRWA employs to process the collected data can achieve sub-foot accuracy. KRWA has resources and contacts to acquire different layers such as topographic, parcel, road, stream, and high-resolution aerials for a system's project. If the system desires printed maps, KRWA has a Hewlett Packard Designjet 5500 that can print wall maps up to 42" in height or width and typically prints 18"x 24" bound/laminated map books of the utility's infrastructure.

KRWA has mapped different types of utilities including water, wastewater, gas and electrical. Recently, the Department collected data for the city of Horton for a street-widening project. The data collected included power poles, water meters, gas and sewer lines, and even buried telephone lines. The data was layered onto a high-resolution aerial photograph and printed for review by engineering firms and contractors. These maps detail accurate location of items that will need to be re-located during the project thus allowing contractors and engineering firms to submit more accurate bids without visiting the location.
